Leaving Captiva

Nine years after civilization collapsed, Bayze Sullivan has built a sanctuary on Captiva Island. There is only one problem: he no longer knows how to live in peace.

When the Afflicted begin to change—and something vast starts calling from the Florida mainland—Bayze must leave the home he fought to create and confront a horror that remembers the dead.

About the author

Douglas Gullett

Douglas Gullett is a Canadian horror writer from Midland, Ontario. His lifelong connection to the outdoors—wildlife, forests, shorelines, fishing, and violent weather—shapes stories where nature is never merely scenery.

His novels are also shaped by his own life. Both the joyful and difficult parts of his experiences have helped him understand loneliness, loyalty, fear, love, and the complicated ways people protect one another. He carries those emotions into his characters, giving even deeply flawed people something recognizably human.

Douglas writes survival horror with a compassionate core: damaged people trying to hold on to one another, places of refuge that become prisons, and ordinary love enduring against impossible forces. Leaving Captiva is his debut novel.
